Leaving out Greavesie for Hunt

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They questioned his judgement. How could he explain
He was leaving out Greavesie for Hunt?
Surely the Tott’nham man, now fit again,
Would be England’s best option up front?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The predator instinct, a goalscoring brain.
Each England fan uttered a grunt.
They casually wondered, was Ramsey insane
To be leaving out Greavesie for Hunt.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And Roger did nothing, he laboured in vain,
To be cruelly, yet pointedly blunt.
To the millions who watched, I believe it was plain,
They should’ve picked Greavesie, not Hunt.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 But then came Hurst’s second, Hunt wheeled like a plane –
His reaction a gamesmanship stunt?
The linesman was fooled, ‘twas to England’s great gain
That they hadn’t picked Greavesie, but Hunt.

Notes

I have a theory that Roger Hunt’s immediate wheeling away arms aloft after Hurst’s shot crashed down off the bar was a factor in the linesman giving the goal. Thus Roger’s selection over Jimmy Greaves was ultimately justified.
