The Game at Fratton Park was quite a Play Up

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The game at Fratton Park was quite a Play Up
And Leeds are up against it now to stay up
When number 6 went in Pompey were coasting
While Leeds self-basted in this mega-roasting

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Admittedly they looked the odds-on losers
But six is sending shock waves round the boozers
The travelling fans were anchored in their places
As goal by goal the net bulged in their faces

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The mood in the away end wasn’t smashing
As Leeds received another heavy thrashing
And next to this strange oasis of quiet
The goalfest nearly caused a Pompey riot

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The Teddy strike force didn’t want a cuddle
As Leeds defended in a dreadful muddle
At least when you’re at home you can leave early
Away, they’ve got you by the short and curly

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 It’s high time Leeds were finding a replacement
But what’s on offer in the bargain basement?
It’s tempting to give up and simply fudge it
Unless you’re talking major ring-fenced budget

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 But hang on, haven’t we been here before?
Last season Reidy picked Leeds off the floor
The difference is the whole team pulled together
And now they’re really making heavy weather

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Reid says that he won’t walk at any cost
But all concerned are hoping he’ll get lost
Oh God! it’s so incredibly depressing
And liquidation now would be a blessing

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Last week they felt like ordering the hearse
But hey, Leeds season just got even worse!
To leak goals at this rate is quite obscene
Let’s hope that relegation’s quick and clean

Notes

I’ve been chronicling the misfortunes of LUFC on the
tott-reunited [NUFC] and waccoe [Leeds] boards all
year, it’s all about Leeds Annus Horribilis of 2003
and the great crash of a mighty club, what it tells us
about the state of the Premiership and football more
widely. A sad tale.

Portsmouth 6 : Leeds 1 on 8 November 2003
