The ball is in the net and the keeper
Looks to officials in black
His ardous journey just got steeper

His paradise has been penetrated

Argues fiercely as the crowd listen in
Hearing the keeper battle in vain
Looking likely that he’s not going to win

Explodes through body language
Which everyone can understand
A victim of a sudden brutal vanquish
Begging for mercy with open hands.

The linesman doesn’t change his mind
Despite the screaming protestations
From the goalkeeper stuck in a bind
He’s in no mood for commiserations.

All the shouting and the goal still counts
He shakes his head in disbelief
A tragedy bestowed and pressure mounts
A goal at the other end would come as sweet relief.
