Like It Used To Be

For the Carling Cup match we had seats together,
Mum, son, myself, and a friend
Like it used to be.
Mum, son, myself, and Grandad.
He started it all.
I thought about him, as we stood there,
Warming congratulating each other
As if we had scored.
The friend was pleased; we knew that
Not only because we were winning;
But for us, the family.
He shared our warmth as we embraced
Like it used to be.
I can’t pick the boy up any more
But he smiled excitedly,
And cuddled both of us
Mum and Dad,
Like it used to be.
