At Big Dave’s feet we lay our solemn trust On his attacking intent we pin all our fervent hope. To circumnavigate the cut and thrust Of November nights in Rotherham… Dave will cope. (The nickname goes back to when first the link was made Between the gentle giant in a junk food advert And our […]

There are moments in a boy’s life- days that linger and ferment forever in the mind: Growing up; leaving the pencil case and the lunch box behind. The first time a razor slides smoothly across the pizza-dappled chin; The realisation you don’t always have to win… to win. The sad slow penny drop that figures […]

It started off so promisingly but, like so much these days, it simply wasn’t built to last. Too many matches set up not to lose too many games without a shot… on target; no reflection of our glorious past. Best squad in decades, but still success is measured in finishing… seventeenth. No decent Cup run […]

New season; hopes fresh as new boots; wild boozy talk of promotion on the terraces. Hushed whisperings of extravagant signings; rumours of wunderkinds Unearthed in the reserves… just waiting to push For a first team place; passed down the line like Chinese whispers. The air is crisp and full-brimmed with the aroma of new programme. […]

Nil-Nil and there’s only been five torturous minutes on the clock But it already looks like their defence is solid as the proverbial rock. I’ve got a nasty feeling about our chances today- Should have gone to the pub with the lads; should have stayed well away. It’s Nil-Nil at half time- what do you […]

Hi Crispin. Chris Sutton on the radio has gone for a Chelsea v Coventry final. As we know anything can happen in the Cup, and I reckon we can go to the final.
We’re still in with a chance of the play offs too, so lots to go for.

Hey Kev
Let the masses drool over their odds on City v Unted Final, but who knows how pressure can hit.
Cov and Chels will be rightly labelled as having no chance..but hey …stranger things have happened..
so Chelsea v Coventry…that’s the Final for us!

Hi Crispin,
How are you doing mate? Yes, you’re probably right but hey football is all about emotion and passion and I just love writing about the game. I try to keep my poetry to a reasonable length but there’s so much to write about the game and its literature just lends itself naturally to poetry. Sometimes I just get completely carried and I do apologise for the length of my poetry but it’s a great thrill to be associated with Football Poets.
Cheers mate

Btw …is this actually your longest poem ever !?

There’s something so evocative and nostalgic for football fans the world over, in ‘revisiting’ old lost grounds.
Occasionally some remnants remain, with perhaps part of a wall or part or a stand or thre shape of a terrace, but often they are only still there in faded images and in our heads..
Great stuff Graham

Today B.B.C post on F.B was titled:Premier League reduced to 18 clubs? I really think it may be interesting to see if this would be Everton’s nightmare and this poem is well suited for this concern. If there would be more difficult battle to stay if there were 18 teams.Great poem and somehow true.
