1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 90 years ago,
The whistles blew at the Somme:
“Steady Carragher.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And you, young Rooney.
Keep all your self-discipline.
It’s how to survive.”

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 90 years later,
Lesser penalties are paid:
Rule book and whistle.

we had a power cut at the end of 120 minutes – everyone out in the street sharing car radios – communal heart ache.
