5 – 1 (Gunners Vanquished)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Snow fell, the cameras rolled; goals flew
In and we stuffed Arsenal, the pride of all
London (so they thought). The Double-ists
Of ’71. We ran them ragged. Doog was in
His pomp, Waggy and Hibbitt no less. But
Best of all it was on Telly, and the Nation
Witnessed; Wilson humiliated, Storey and
Charlie – all of Bertie’s boys buried; 5 – 1.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Like winning the Pools and Spot the Ball
All in one – FIVE goals, from one-nil down;
Magic ! And still the snow fell all around us.
It’s what memories were made for; a light,
A recollection, a spark to send us into our
Golden past. When players were players,
Ready for the fight, of the town and for the
Town on that long lost winters’ day. 5 – 1.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Forgive the ramblings – from a time so remote it
Might be another world – on the eve of this new
Campaign, when we’ll struggle to survive, but at
Least we’re there…and miracles just might come
True in our unfashionable part of the world. As
They did all those years ago, when Slade were
Tops, we’d just gone Decimal and war raged in
Vietnam – Cue Barry Davies at Molineux…5 – 1 !
