5-a-high

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 There are some nights
when the head’s not right
when the worries are accumulating – faster than credit crunch debt

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 You’ve a cricked neck
a higgledy hip
an ailing mother
a sick child
a miffed wife
you’ve had a bad day at the office
a near miss on the motorway
arrive home to find your bin tipped
and letterbox stuffed, with bilious bills
then just as you leave, the drizzle sets in
and the easy option
would be to turn back

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But you press on
get togged out
step out onto the pitch
cross that line onto the astro…

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And play

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 you work it
you dig in
you work it some more
then every pass – hits its mark
every tackle – blocks ‘n shocks
every shot – tests the keeper
and then one
converts every ounce of misery
into a perfectly weighted strike
and pummels the net
Relief!
you walk off smiling
your cares all buried
in the ol’ onion bag

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I love nights like that

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Last night was the poetry
Today the reflection
