6-2

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Good Friday Eleven
O’ clock
Big game Fulham versus
Wednesday
Holiday early start
Big crowd
Small boys with dad that’s us
Thousands
On the stone terraces
Can’t see
Crowds friendly in those days
Idea!
Pass small boys over the heads
The pitch!
We’re on the pitch! By the
Goal line
With the photographers
Teams out
Announcement in warm-up
J. Hill
Will play at number 8
Crowd groans
So atmospheric it’s
Cloudy
Loud, fast, players so close
See goals
Lots of goals and guess what
The man
They booed Jimmy Hill, beard
And all
Scored three goals with his head!
“Head trick!”
Papers blazed on Saturday
“6-2
Cottagers beat Wednesday”
But by
Then we were dreaming of
Easter
And big chocolate eggs

Notes

I’ve tried to write the poem so there are alternate lines of 6 & 2 syllables.
