75 Grand

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What could you do with 75 grand?
It could go in the bank, or straight in your hand
And I don’t mean winnings, after a lucky streak
I’m talking 75 big ones, at the end of every week

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Because I’ve heard a story, about a former Premiership star
Who had two or three houses and more than one car
He was paid 75K by his club, for just playing a game
But it wasn’t enough, ain’t that a shame

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 He tells those who will listen, that he can’t pay his way
Yet he got his money, work, rest or play
This just goes to show, what’s wrong with the ‘beautiful game’
Too much money, for too little effort, so where lies the blame?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Is it us, the fans, for expecting too much from our ‘boys’
Or the players, their earnings and their various ‘toys’
Is it the chairmen, who are the cause of this mess
Or maybe the ‘agents’ who couldn’t care less

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Whilst some clubs run up debts, which could see them go ‘bust’
Fans on the Kop shout, “In Rafa we trust”
Foreign ‘investors’ aren’t always the answers we need
As this fast running ‘gravy train’ is fuelled by greed

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 For many fans, 75G is over three year’s hard graft
So in context, footballer’s wages are just so plain daft
They get paid even more money, to wear the latest ‘Nike’ boot
So I ask once again, what could you do with that loot?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Me, I would risk the wrath of the wife
By spending it all on the ‘love of my life’
You see Stockport County are in debt problems too
Even though at Edgeley Park, this is nothing that’s new

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Although this time around, the club is in real dire straits
As there in the background, the ‘grim reaper’ he waits
The administrators just seem to be adding to the debt
As the ‘takeover’ of the club hasn’t happened as yet

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 I know that 75K wouldn’t heal all the ills
But it may go some way to clearing the bills
And then when the ‘takeover’ is all signed and sealed
Things just might improve on the field

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 So when players like Obafemi Martins are having a ‘winge’
About how little they can spend on a weekend binge
Someone should maybe remind them of the facts
That many a Football Club could be run, on what he pays in tax.

Notes

I recently read a story about Obafemi Martin’s struggle to live on the ‘reputed’ £75,000 per week he was paid during his stint at Newcastle United, and it got me thinking about how my club (Stockport County) could really do with that sort of money coming in every week.
