A Game Of Two Halves.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 ‘Is there anybody there?’ said the manager
Knocking on the dressing room door
Inside, fourteen pairs of dejected eyes
Looked down to the muddy floor

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 He closed the door, stepped inside
Breathed in the vapor rub
Stared at the grim sad faces
Then wished he was down the pub

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Four nil down, half time frowns
Looked at him forlorn
Eleven year old’s who knew it all
Thought winning was the norm

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The captain stood up and looked at him
‘ We’re fed up with getting beat,
If we let another four in, in the second half,
That’ll be sixteen in a week!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Losing is just awful
It really isn’t fair
I’m sad now that I came to play for you lot
You all act like you don’t care’

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The manager took a deep breath
Took all of this in
Then said to all of those sitting there
‘Where do I begin….?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 In life, not everyone’s a winner
Someone must get beat
But to learn from that experience
Might make you hate defeat

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 As for fair, don’t go there
What’s with all this fair stuff?
The only fair you’ll find out there
Is the fare you pay on the bus!

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 This dog eat dog world we live in
Is just like this football match
Some days it you who gets the breaks
Other days… the slaps

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Its not as if your playing badly
But they have got the goals
Just keep up with what your doing
Then anything might happen, who knows?

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 But don’t sit down there complaining
This football lark should be fun
Make sure you enjoy the second half
Much more than that first one

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 I wanna see the lot of yer you smiling
When you run out on that pitch
This teams as good as them next door
Its just we’ve yet to click

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 So come on lads, make yer mums and dads
Proud in the second half
Down and beat, on the retreat, Us?
You must be having a laugh!’

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 An air of great expectancy
Had filled the dressing room
Suddenly there was hope
Where before there’d just be been gloom

15 Leave a comment on verse 15 0 The boys did smile and for a while
They laughed and joked and chilled
After munching on the half time oranges
Felt so much more fulfilled

16 Leave a comment on verse 16 0 They trooped out onto the muddy pitch
To play the second half
The mums and dads could see their lads
Enjoying it at last!

17 Leave a comment on verse 17 0 When the game was over
The muddy eleven year olds
Were still full of beans from the buzz of it all
It sure helps keep out the cold

18 Leave a comment on verse 18 0 The dressing room, now was a happy place
Where there had once been sad despair
The mums and dads still cheered on the lads
From outside in the cold dank air

19 Leave a comment on verse 19 0 Oh! The final score? A four all draw
Everyone who was pleased agreed
In life you don’t always get what you want
But, you might get what you need!
