A Little Local Frustration

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So what’s gone wrong with the West Midlands’ clubs ?
Fans still turn out in their thousands, blind loyalty or
Blind stupidity – always a cause to follow, a (replica) shirt
To wear; Jobs on the slide, but hands in pockets to fund
Their addictive supporting habits – be it Villa claret, be it
Wanderers’ gold; be it Baggies’ stripes or Birmingham’s
Blues – even Walsall’s Saddlers suffer a similar fate.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Relegation, demotion, loss of status – call it what you will
But the pains remain; a proud people in the wilderness.
It’s all South and North on the TV, and in the papers –
The loyalties of several millions ignored, disregarded;
Hardly surprising though, when trophies are so rare
In this part of the world – but hope springs eternal, and
One day things will change for the better, or so we pray.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Fortunes will revive; Wolves and Albion in the fifties,
Villa’s historic legacy, Blues in the seventies – all senior
League members, respected and honoured within the game.
The pendulum will swing to favour us, smiles will return
To long-suffering fans’ faces, as sleeping giants awaken
From the overwhelming lethargy of recent times – or am I
Just dreaming, and will our nightmare of failure continue…
