A Minute’s Silence for the Pope

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 In matters sociological
And yes, anthropological,
It would have been an interesting experiment.
To see would Linfield fans react
With scorn and jeers, or silent tact,
Or maybe with a roar of bawdy merriment.

Notes

Probably wisely (but you never know!) officials at the recent Setanta Cup game between Longford and Linfield decided to forego the minute’s silence for the Pope. Can’t help wondering what would have happened if it had gone ahead. If it had been observed by Linfield fans, would that not have been the most wonderful gesture? If they’d reacted like some Hearts fans, it would have been terrible. Sadly we’ll never know. Linfield players wore black armbands instead.
