“The atmosphere’s gone, it won’t be the same”
But 96 lives would be living today…
So history and progress must in union play
Yet Anfield the harbour the port for our dreams
This old Lady gave birth to the greatest of teams
And yes I’ll be sad when they unpick her seams

And they’ll come in their thousands to this hallowed park
All hoping to catch the light of the dream
The glory that was, the glory to be
“All you need is the ball and the green grass”
Ask Bill Bob and Joe, there’s nowt if you’re last
But time must move on, and all things must pass

All have opinions, to go or to stay
But what’s called into question reason or faith
Stones cannot breathe and bricks fall away
It’s not in the seating it’s not in the songs
It’s not even in the boots of Ian St John
But here in each heart where Anfield belongs

You can stick your ground share where the sun don’t shine
You pulled down the Cavern the protests ignored
The overhead railway deemed an old fashioned eyesore
It’s not a matter about football it’s more serious than that
And whilst the future is important, so is the past
Our ground is a church a cathedral for those of the faith
Where the dream of Bill Shankly lived The Liverpool Way

The angel Dalglish with his boots made of gold
Her skies filled with tears for the children she lost
Justice and truth are still paying the cost
I came here with me dreams met up with me mates
And the father I lost who I could not replace
Money is mortal, but love binds each prayer
So build us a new Jerusalem, but not a ground share.
