A party had

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Old packets of chips,
last of the special crisps,
mustard stains,
cold onion rings,
discarded hot dog buns,
distillery brews,
cans abused,
crushed orange juice,
in cartons strewn,
obese bins,
paper reams,
used tickets,
someone’s dreams.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Mcdonalds closed,
no big mac crave,
no vociferous calls,
to buy unofficial balls,
mags and other support.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 No hanging scarves,
empty pubs,
museum queueless,
no smiling faces,
police under used,
traffic lights clueless.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 No flake 99s,
ticket touts on holiday,
no Norwegian twangs,
just local slangs,
hibernating seasonal fans.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 No “mister I’ll look after your car”,
no flippant “my dog’ll look after it” remarks,
no clever retort from the 10 year olds,
about your dog,
and it’s ability to put out fires.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Like a seaside town in winter,
our home’s shut for the summer.
But Mr. Shankly’s defiant,
the party’s never over,
raising his arms,
in constant celebration.
