A Plea From Me, To Roy and The Powers That Be.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Dear Mr Hodgson, it’s time we latched on
To what winning World Cups is about
In writing this poem I trust you’re well in the know
On the lack of support for your players just now.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 We are prone to deceive on occasion
An old Roller with nowt in the tank
Rarely looking the part, it’s engine lacks heart,
In terms of competing, we’re mere also rans.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 No one does pure pomp and circumstance
Like us when occasion doth call
To the front we will face, without earning a place
A nation united stood tall.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 With the chalice of victory there in our grasp
Fate on occasion has painfully erred
Deeming us to be short of the mettle that’s sought
To be victors, the dogs or preferred.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Yet the prowess to party’s worth nothing
If the wanting to win ain’t in tune
With the voice of this great nations fanticipation
For our turn being due and real soon.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The fan indoors perched (sic) on his/her sofa
Fish n chips nervously plaiced (sic) on their lap
Knows too well that a team, it’s defence all at sea
Will get battered (sic) unless we cop on and react.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Since our last title, we’re feasting on maybes
Nearlys, almost’s and what if’s?
Indeed it’s that far away in the harsh light of day
I often confuse it, with a win circa 1066.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 This is written with plenty of notice
That the nation expects you to compete
Not offer excuses or toothless millionaire interviews
Putting a lack of commitment all down to the heat.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 So I’m pleading to you Mr Hodgson and co
Prior to next summers World Cup in Brazil:
To forgo monetary offers, greedy advertisers may proffer,
Turn up primed, fit and proud, sing the anthem out loud,
As those here at home undoubtedly will!

Notes

This poem was written this very morning, when I thought rather than ponder another World Cup staring down the barrels of mediocrity, whilst listening to loads of pre-planned lame excuses from a bunch of under performing, overpaid idols off on a jolly, then moaning about it afterwards. Now might be as good a time as any to get my angst out there and let them (the players that is) know, that I as a fully qualified and time served armchair pundit for one, am far from happy with the teams so-called commitment and preparations for the cause thus far!

Carefree….braised in Celery.

Stay well, be lucky and keep smiling.

Peace.

Kev.
