A Queenstown Eulogy

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Evergreen we hit at half past 3
To have a chat with TOD
We had a few mouthwashes’ there
Then off down to Ship Sinkers lair

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Few more were had during transit
Chants were bellowed, sung, emit
We landed there, got off the bus
Into a pub, without much fuss

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We left that pub at five past seven
And headed up into the heavens
A hundred steps we then did scale
But stopped on way, inhale, exhale

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Into the clubhouse for more beer
A trend is starting to appear
Warm up complete we headed out
We found our FOCCers, most devout

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Most people there were from City
Not such a crowd since eighty three
Scene was set, place was heaving
Hopes were high of Cambridge grieving

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Both the teams deserved the draw
Twas nothing that would drop the jaw
Full Time report with Anthony?
Or throw yourself into the sea?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Misery etched on every face
Driver! Get us out of this place
Disappointment? even some distress
But a great day out nonetheless

Notes

Forget your Old Firm, your Merseyside derbies, this was the one we were all waiting for, Cobh Ramblers v Cork City, first Cork Derby in 13 years, what a day we had, interviewed for RTEs new football programme MNS in the afternoon, at HT & FT, free bus with beer to Cobh, a great occasion followed by a completely forgettable 0-0 draw.
Football doesn’t half bring you back down to earth sometimes but the occasion was brilliant and we have to go there again in September.

Ship Sinkers – Cobh (Lusitania was heading there & it was the Titanics last port of call)
FOCC – Friends Of Cork City (Cork City Supporters Group)
TOD/Anthony – Tony O’Donoghue – Sports Editor for RTE
Cambridge – Martin, City fan and now assistant manager of Cobh.
