Agony and ecstasy

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I lifted her up in my arms
My doting daughter deep asleep
In my limb locked cradle

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I blessed the deity who smiles upon us

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Yet not everyone shares my fortune
For instance, the McCann’s
And given the day that’s in it –
All those associated with 9/11

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And tonight, anniversary night
Will bring that dreaded dream :
Falling Man
But why these thoughts so extreme?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 I guess it’s because I feel empathy –
My daugter’s the same age as Maddie
And many moons ago
I worked at the World Trade Centre

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Morbid enough, I didn’t need
My hamstring tearing again
But at least I was alive to play
And be the happiest of men

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Lo, sometimes we need to be self mocking
To counter balance the shocking
So if you find my prose mischevious
And the football frippery frivolous…

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Please bear in mind
That it is my crutch
And for ‘it’ and life
I care so much

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 And explains why my ultimate nightmare
Is my darling rose growing up
And seeking the affection of another …

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 What if they don’t like football?

Notes

Sympathy and condolences to all who deserve it … remembering 9/11
