Others scoff and say you’re sad
Many stare and look away
Then turn and with a smile say

‘Tis true without a shade of doubt
Shock horror written on the face
“Football poems have a place?”

Inspired by Pele’s gracious game
The dignity of Bobby Moore
The thunderous boots of Kenny’s scored

Gento’s skills brushed all aside
Andrade as smooth as woven silk
Gentile hard in for the kill

Our football voices proudly heard
We come to praise not aim to preach
But share the love of all and each
