ALL VERSED OUT

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Some will laugh and think you’re mad
Others scoff and say you’re sad
Many stare and look away
Then turn and with a smile say

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “Football poetry, what’s that about?”
‘Tis true without a shade of doubt
Shock horror written on the face
“Football poems have a place?”

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Er yes they do and rich the vein
Inspired by Pele’s gracious game
The dignity of Bobby Moore
The thunderous boots of Kenny’s scored

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The snapping studs of Nobby Stiles
Gento’s skills brushed all aside
Andrade as smooth as woven silk
Gentile hard in for the kill

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 These football Kings we wrap in words
Our football voices proudly heard
We come to praise not aim to preach
But share the love of all and each

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The terrace ballads haiku touts
Match prose maestros all versed out
In study centres programme notes
To a ground near you “The Football Poets”.
