Always Football

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 1 The scarecrow leans against the wall
And at her feet lies an old football.
She cannot play
And nor can I,
But when I look up to the sky
I see the memories of the football days
Just flowing by in a pale blue haze.
In my life for so many years,
And I look back at times through silent tears.
So many years I watched him play,
So many games now far away.
Football will always be part of my life,
A special legacy for a footballer’s wife.

Notes

My late husband Francis Exall played professional football in South Africa. He sadly died three years ago, but the football memories will stay with me forever. He had a short spell with Fulham in the 1961/62 season, but could not take the weather and returned to sunny South Africa where he played for Durban United for most of his career.
