An Answer to Rog McGough’s Comments about Football and Poetry

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So Rog you think that football verse
Is hardly writ or something worse
That no one pens an ode or two
That’s worth a read from you know who

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Come down from academic skies
And breathe the air of terrace pies
The songs and chants pour from the heart
Wrapped up with love and flags and scarves

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 For every poet that you name
We have our own who go the game
Ballads, cinquains, haikus too
In every colour (even blue!)

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The Merseysound indeed I’ve read
Henri, Patten and yourself
But just because you dont know us
It doesn’t mean we’ve missed the bus!*

Notes
