Ancient Europeans

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Evenings in Europe on Radio Five
Before Sky, before digital
Players names not known to us
In the seventies, (when we went decimal)

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Unfamiliar exotic delights
Silky skills and circus wiles
Names spelt using letters
Else found only on Scrabble tiles

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The excitement and glamour
Interest and intrigue
To watch the continental cream
Hidden in other leagues

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Now we watch them every week
Unveiled of mystery
Europes revealed treasures
Now make our history

Notes

The saying goes ‘familiarity breeds contempt’.

The European Cup did seem more exciting back then, before football became another casualty of cloning.

It could just be my enthusiasm faded and I got jaded and grumpy!
