And now for the good news…

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Covid has hit harder
than a Chopper “intervention”
but though some clubs have tip-toed out
not everyone has been subject to suspension

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And it’s not all as mordant
as a splenetic Morrissey melody
for there have been matches
to serve up something of a remedy

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Us fans reflect on memories
to avoid the pull of the downbeat
and sparkle into life
at all the positive results in the broadsheet

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Any sour discourse
of this cynical and compromised time
is soon damned and dismissed
as the goals and assists, begin to chime

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 “To the future with Love”
and with oodles and bundles of hope
where abundant points and victories
assuage more just a literary trope!

Notes

Totally indebted to a section of the Rev Richard Coles article with Ruby Wax in the Sunday Times magazine of 02.01.2022.

Chopper:
To the uninitiated: google “Ron Harris tackles”

This poem written 06.01.2022 when many matches have been postponed due to the Omicron Covid-19 variant rampant in UK

Ref:
“some clubs have tip-toed out”
there is a sense that some clubs have used covid-19 positive cases as a very convenient excuse to get matches postponed at a time when they are woefully out-of-form and preferred to have time on the training ground rather than take an embarrassing battering!
