And So Blackness Descends

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 And so blackness descends
And my brain switches off,
The eveningtide blends
Into night.
The clouds in my mind
Start to bicker and scoff
As they struggle to find
Chinks of light.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 This must be death
With its pallor so chill
I feel its cold breath
On my face.
It’s velvety cape
Suffocates me until
I can see no escape
From this place.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 For there’s nothing to see
And there’s nothing to do.
There’s nothing for me
Anymore.
The blackness has cast
Every prospect from view,
All life travels past
My front door.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The emptiness falls
Like a sack of cement,
The numbness recalls
Distant pain.
This dead’ning fatigue
Carries death’s fatal scent –
Three months till the League
Starts again.

Notes

God, I hate the close season.
