Another Trend Bucked

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It seems a veritable age
Since Ollie’s handball caused such rage
And, Derry’s remonstrations spurned,
Their fury went beyond the gauge.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Traditionally, we don’t do well
When playing in that Northern hell,
And points are very seldom earned
Within the fortress Brandywell.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Last season, just one point was gained,
Although we stretched and fought and strained,
And title talk became adjourned,
Until at other times ordained.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Even when their side is weak,
They seem to pump up their physique,
And thus we’ve downcast oft returned
Without the victory we might seek.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But lo, behold, we bucked the trend,
Brought desolation to an end,
For they were well and truly Byrned,
And didn’t manage to contend.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Although, that said, it took a blunder,
To tear the home defence asunder,
When Kelly, as could be discerned,
Fumbled and was left to wonder.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Then at the death, the win was sealed,
With Glenn’s true worth again revealed,
And all our inner thoughts were churned
By rapture on and off the field.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Atop the league, no goals conceded,
Chalk the points up just when needed.
Thus the football screw is turned,
If the failings have been heeded.
