Another Year

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So, Here We Go, again, then.
Packing up our troubles in our old kit bag,
Railway cuttings, Robins and old programmes,
Photos of mum and dad and Fliss and Keith and me,
All tied up in a bag on the end of a stick.
There’s me. Kicking a football and dropping my books,
Walking into a Clarke’s shoes country lane advertisement,
With its white fenced vanishing point,
Somewhere over a rainbowed distant signal,
Where the line to next season meets your first ever:
Swindon Town, August 1960,
A one all draw with Halifax Town,
Your 9th birthday, and destiny determined;
As always, half full and half empty.

Notes

Didn’t know whether to go green for the GWR or red for Swindon Town F.C. We’ll go green for good luck – or is it jealousy?
