Apologies to all Aussies

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Whose was the sparkling idea
At a packed Lansdowne Road last night?
The motives were vague and unclear,
The action offensive and trite.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 We have an immense reputation
For welcoming fans from abroad.
Their anthems receive an ovation,
Their excesses are largely ignored.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 So why the intense provocation?
Why should we be so insulting?
Twas only through chance situation
That violence wasn’t resulting.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The Aussies are normally cheerful,
Ebullient, with great bonhomie,
But prior to the match they were tearful,
And well they had reason to be.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The music pre-match was quite harmless,
We bore it with scarcely a frown,
But it changed to offensive and charmless,
When they played “Tie Me Kangaroo Down.”

Notes

I regard this as the equivalent of state-sponsored terrorism, committed by a man well-known for his crimes against music.
I can only apologise for the utter humiliation caused to our Antipodean friends last night. The person responsible for the music is currently in hiding.
