patriotic, proud and fierce,
someone like Sam Allardyce,
Curbishly or Pearce.”

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 These are the popular sentiments,
and everyone’s agreed,
that it should be a home grown offering,
who’ll take over from the Swede.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The Swede being Sven – Goran Eriksson,
has been accused of lacking soul,
now when the World Cup’s over,
he’ll be signing on the dole.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 So the F.A men of Soho Square,
now have the job to choose,
who is the man most qualified,
to fill Sven’s pumped up shoes.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Over G and T’s they’ll toss names around,
while gossiping at who Sven’s bedding,
but they should just drive up — the M4,
to the little town of Reading.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 There they’ll meet an unassuming man,
who’s just led Reading to promotion,
one who’s remembered at his former clubs,
with fondness and devotion.

Man United playing career,
Steve Coppell managed Palace,
before his thirtieth year.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 He took the Palace boys to Wembley,
was at the helm during administration,
refused to accept his wages,
to help avoid their liquidation.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 A successful spell at Brentford,
before heading further west,
and he’s managed Reading to the Prem,
where they’ll battle with the best.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 But when you press your remote control,
and flick through with your thumb,
all you’ll see is Allardyce,
with his ear-phones and his gum.
Stuart Pearce with his psycho stare,
that could an advancing army topple,
but not a mention of the man himself,
Readings Stevie Coppell.

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 So if the F.A have the guts,
to see if he’ll achieve,
maybe in Two Thousand and Ten,
we’ll be hearing ” ARISE SIR STEVE.”

Congratulations to Steve Coppell for winning promotion with unfashionable Reading. Never mentioned for the England job although his record stands with any of the other candidates.
Always referred to at Selhurst Park as Sir Steve.
