As Early Evening Came….

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Tee shirted football fans
Walking down a sweltering Fulham Road
Last evening were in good spirits.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A two day heat wave in London
Had switched their mindsets
From cold to summer mode.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 All they wanted
To round off a beautiful warm day
In the capital, was three home points.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 In life unfortunately
You don’t always get what you want
So when The Drog
Smashed one against the bar
In the dying minute.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The home fans went completely radio rental
At missing out on a long odds title shot
For about thirty seconds.
Gave the boys a deserved round of applause
Pondered on what might have been.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Then thought about: Barcelona,
A day out at the FA Cup Final,
and the fast approaching English Summer.
As they walked from the floodlit stadium
In to the humid late evening.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Realising that on the whole
The boys had tried, and had given it their best shot.
Which as fans
Is all we ever ask of our team.
That they at the very least…try!

Notes

The above was inspired by a beautiful warm evening at Stamford Bridge over in West London, sat watching a cracking nil, nil draw in light summer clothes for a change, then afterwards chilling out and chatting about the season, drinking coffee in a nearby Italian resturant till midnight with a couple of mates and very nearly missing the last train home to ‘The Burbs’!

For this fan, nights at the football ain’t ever gonna get any sweeter that that one.

Peace.

Kev.
