At Full Time

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I hear the meaning, not the words
the drifting lilt of tone,
a singing crowd over late night traffic.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 On the other side of glass as seasons turn,
waiting for the sky to fall,
a single drop of rain then another.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The spatter of footsteps on pavements;
water sanctifies the profane,
softens the smack of heel and toe.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Windows streaked by meteor showers.
A delta of streams will build;
to catch these words and float their meaning.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 From here dark clouds cast spray-dust,
as drifting bands of stars;
the world still ours if we reach for it.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Lightning fuses earth in the distance,
this city asleep and wide awake,
voices rising over background static.

Notes

I think there’s something special about the atmosphere of a town or city when an evening match is happening – even if you don’t have a ticket.
