Beano – there’s only none Beano

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 With Henry Terry
they made merry
introducing a comical notion –
but sense prevailed
before the righteous railed
at such a racist potion

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 For if the easily led
where to have read
this provocative football fable –
who knows
as the seed grows
what ignorance they could enable?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Fortunately, quality control
pulped the whole
mischievous issue –
To the wise old bird
who gave the word
the morally aware want to kiss you!

Notes

Please excuse the bad English in the title – all for the sake of a bad pun!

This item relates to a story on the web last week, which stated that the
people behind the Beano comic pulled an issue and pulped all the comics, because it was deemed that the way one of the characters in the ‘Ball Boy’ storyline was portrayed (Henry Thierry, in Arsenal type kit), could be construed as racially abusive.

Fair play to them.

Meanwhile, the real Thierry Henry is launching a personal initiative against racism,
called Stand Up, Speak Up,
ultimately brought about by the slur / racially insensitive comment from
Spain’s national coach, Louis Aragones.
