Beat on the Brat

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A kid with a flag ran the length of the pitch,
And hundreds of Shels fans applauded.
It was such a moronic incident which
Should not have been loudly rewarded.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Call me a nerd or a boring old fart,
But I hate seeing games interrupted.
With the game in full flow, there’s no need for stop/start,
Concentration could well be disrupted.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 People get “injured,” when under the cosh,
To break up the other team’s rhythm.
And refs are aware it’s a load of old tosh,
But they can’t help but go along with ‘em.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 But why halt the play when your team is on top.
When your side is inflicting a beating?
Why staunch the red flow, bringing play to a stop?
It surely is quite self-defeating.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Not only that! If the home fans applaud,
It gives credence to that kind of action,
Encouraging others, if hard-faced or bored,
To look for the same crowd reaction.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 So stay off the pitch when the game’s underway,
And don’t be a solitary raider.
Con Houlihan, bless him, was oft heard to say,
He would shoot every damned space invader.
