Before we had subs.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 There’s very little wrang with yer
Gan and play oot on the wing
Or else we’ll only hev Ten men
And I’ts a game that we must win.
Div’nt let them see your struggling
And keep yer arm inside the sling
I’ts only a minor injury
And I’ts a game that we must win.
Tommy Stott wor sponge man
Say’s you’ll be al reet
I’ts only a broken collarbone
And there’s nowt wrang with yer feet.
I’ve got nee time for softies
Give me lads like Geordie Clegg
He played al that extra time last week
Despite his broken leg.
Ah knaa Geordie noo has gangerine
And will most likely lose his limb
But we’d be oot of the cup by noo
If it had’nt been for him.
Ah knaa there’s taak of substitutes
But we cannot use them yit
Besides the rest will dee yer good
Yer’ll gerra shift off from the pit.
So howay son think of Geordie
And dee it just for him
Think of everything he sacrificed
And I’ts a game that we must win.

Notes

I read recently In the days before substitutes were allowed how John Aston snr broke his arm playing for Man Utd in a game just before half time and re-appeared for the second half with his arm in a sling and played at outside right. It seems incredible in the modern game now and I cant see Mark Viduka subscribing to that idea.
