As young men died as young men had
not many years before.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Young and old cried their tears In haunting mixed emotions
As the radio reported the names
of dying footballers

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Some played for England, Ireland also Wales
All for Manchester United
The Belgrade snow froze the lives that had barely started.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 They had raised our hopes in football terms
By winning games in Europe,
As Real Madrid had done with Puskas and Di Stefano.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 ‘The Busby Babes’ they called his team, some only in their teens
He defied the English authorties
To glories only read about but never seen.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Their names are; Eddie Coleman, the youngest at nineteen.
Liam ( Bill ) Whelan, David Pegg and Tommy Taylor.
Geoff Bent, Mark Jones and Mr Duncan Edwards,
Perhaps England’s greatest prodigy ever seen.
Team captain, Roger Byrne; the oldest, aged twenty four.
