Big Boys

Bully boys
No bigger than their words
Four letter foreboding
Replica shirts and duplicate stomachs
A conventions of hummocks
Chugging on Marlboros
Hugging like bears when their team scores
Thugs of iron
Pressing for results
Shouting and wearing
Don’t care who hears them
Aggression and tension
Diluted by neat haircuts
Stewards squashed in orange vests
Sit down, shut up
You know it makes sense

Thanks to ‘family’ stands, small children no longer have to endure the passion at close range.
