Big Mal.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Now Big Mal’s gone to ground in the sky,
With his wisdom of the working mans ballet
With his big la di dah and a dazzling smile*
Made Maine Road the place to be of a Saturday

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 That showdown with Clough on ‘The Big Match’
Between two titans of the working class game
‘Old Big Ead’ and him hammer and tong went at it
Though in ego size both were the same.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The money he’d throw at a class act
Broke records way back in the days
When fans on the terraces sardine like packed
Cheered wildly and sang loudly his name.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Joe Mercer and Big Mal had us watching
Avidly a new style of play
And Colin Bell, Francis Lee, Big Joe Corrigan
Became icons via Match Of The Day.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 There ain’t too many left, like Moore, Osgood or Best,
And Bobby Smith who’s just joined them in Heaven
Now the coach what done most for the fans at Maine Road
Will be like a kid in a sweetshop, picking God’s first eleven!

Notes

For Malcolm Allison. R.I.P and may your God go with you.

Peace.

Kev.
