Bitten Fingernails and Sweaty Brows

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 “We are staying up ”
sing the relieved fans,
fingernails stopped being chewed
right down to their quick.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 No more nervous tension
stress levels returned to normal,
sweat dried up on furrowed brows.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 End of season matches
can be so bad for your health,
especially down at the bottom.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 But your team is now safe
relegation is now not on the agenda,
supporters breathe a huge sigh of relief.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Another campaign of high expectations
climaxed in a battle of survival,
it went right down to the wire.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 ” So we are staying up ”
sing the delighted crowd,
“but until the next time”
says the cynical long suffering supporter !

Notes

My team Coventry could still go down but seeing they’re not giving us ten points back and we lost our leading striker,if we stay up we have to be satisfied. This part of the season is great at the top of the divisions, but at the bottom it’s a nervy time for both players and fans.
So this is for those who manage to escape the drop.
