black players as role models – sonnet

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 now a footballer’s life can be tempting
the glamour the money the style
and the prospects they seem never ending
but in truth they last barely a while

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 so try to imagine just how it must be
when they judge by the colour of skin
where a crowd can stay silent but cannot resist
and the chants of abuse they begin

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 think then on the role of black players today
role models for all in the game
let us vote on their skill and they way that they play
and treat all men as one and the same

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 let us show them together – we’ll stand and be strong
for in football this racism cannot belong..
