blasted, 7/7

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Tavistock Square
still bleeds, London bus red
the bombed out carcass
mapped out, by CSI, rather than OS.
Forensic analysis, has it
scaffolded for scrutiny.
An ad still visible on the rear bumper :
‘Learning pays’
yet it’s only terrorism that profits.
‘They’ didn’t learn about bomb making
out on the football pitches
it’s not taught on the terracing
and yes, though there is an atmosphere menacing
we usually make it home, unscathed.
Again yes, we have ‘explosive’ shots
that ‘cannon’ off walls or posts
but the damage, is purely metaphorical.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Ok, so football is not a panacea
a pandemic, some might say
but at least I can still smile
if the opposition blow me away

Notes

I’m sorry if the ending seems too brutal for words :
but they are just words
and I preach peace

This poem triggered by a front page picture of the bus a week later, still covered in scaffolding as the forensic experts carry out their painstaking yet crucial examinations.

Once again, I extend my heartfelt condolences to all who suffered and lost loved ones in the bombings.

CSI = Crime Scene Investigations
OS = Ordnance Survey
