Bobbie Stokes Remembered. 1951-1995.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Small in stature but big of heart,
for the Saints he played his part.
A journeyman player he was called,
gave honest sweat for that we’d applaud.
He took the knocks he took the kicks,
so the stars could show off their tricks.
But come the hour and come the day,
in seventy six we went down Wembley Way.
The ground was full of red and yellow,
the script wasn’t shown to the little fellow.
Man Utd were in the first division,
Saints would win was met with derision.
The game was played, flowed to and fro,
came the second half, minutes to go.
Then up popped little Bobbie Stokes,
past Alex Stepney the ball he strokes.
He gave that cheeky impish grin,
and the Saints went on to win.
Now he will not be out to play,
god bless you Bobbie for that day.
