Bold Rupert’s Square Eyed Masses

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A bleakness lies upon us,
There’s no daylight to be seen.
The Dark Lord has outshone us
On his television screen.
The world writhes in his power,
We are in a state of chassis.
Though we keep the faith, we cower
From bold Rupert’s square eyed masses.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 With his cables and his dishes,
He’s performed his revolution.
We defer now to his wishes
As the logical solution.
From the comfort of our sofas
We can rail at mis-timed passes.
An army of great loafers
Are bold Rupert’s square eyed masses.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Today’s so-called supporter
Sets his tankard on his belly.
Lying back in bricks and mortar,
He shouts wildly at the telly,
While not many metres distant,
Watched by several lads and lasses,
Players bust a gut, resistant
To bold Rupert’s square eyed masses.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 But all empires tend to crumble
When their might seems all-pervasive.
And though faint, I caught a rumble
That was tiny, yet persuasive.
And it urged each true fanatic
To meet up wherever grass is
To proclaim The Word, ecstatic,
‘Gainst bold Rupert’s square eyed masses.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 For we cannot be defeated,
Though beset by high technology
In their world, six times repeated
With no hint of an apology.
As his soldiers’ minds start churning
Like a vat of thick molasses,
Then the tide will soon start turning
‘Gainst bold Rupert’s square eyed masses.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 As we graze and low like cattle
In the bantering canteen,
Real football will do battle
With the tripe upon the screen.
Though we’re presently outnumbered,
We will shortly raise our glasses
To a vict’ry, unencumbered
O’er bold Rupert’s square eyed masses.

Seems like 3 dimensional-football watchers are dismissed in workplaces up and down the country and around the world, by people who think football begins and ends with Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, Celtic, Rangers etc. The TV is no substitute for live football.

‘Chassis’ pronounced to rhyme with masses (obviously)
