Bungle in the Jungle

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The beasts and the insects were having a game,
In a fortuitous jungle clearing.
The millipede had to be stretchered off lame,
And the end of the match was a-nearing.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The score was nil-nil in the Amazon Cup,
As the clock ticked away the last second,
Three minutes of injury time nearly were up,
And the prospect of golden goals beckoned.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But then a small termite let fly with pure dread,
And the lion in goal could not hold.
And the ball was knocked up and went over his head,
‘Ere he clutched it back into the fold.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Well the insects jumped up with their arms in the air
[Or their feelers or wings or whatever]
But the animals claimed that was really unfair,
And went around shouting out, “Never!”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The black-clad flamingo was not to be fooled
By the shaking of heads and denying,
And, to a great uproar, he famously ruled
That the ball had gone over the lion.
