Call My Bluff

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 back in the good ol’ days
we had real raconteurs
full of repartee and wit

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 solid decent types
who linger long in the memory,
to whit :

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 the forthright Doog
the loqacious talking chin
the controversial Clough

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 the eloquent Malcolm Allison
and tiddly Tommy Doc –
who added a bit of gruff

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But if you were to suggest
that now is a golden era :
what, Shearer insightful and Lineker tough?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I’d as soon swap the planks for a bit o’ Shanks
and would definately
be compelled to call your bluff

Notes

someone mentioned Call My Bluff on the radio this morning, and sent me off on nostalgic rant!

someone – being Ian Dempsey, breakfast show host in Ireland, and fellow Chelsea fan!

the talking chin – if you were around then, you won’t need reminding that I am of course referring to Jimmy Hill
