Can I Live Without My Club ?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I’ve always loved Football
since I was just a lad,
played for my school teams
watched by my dear old dad.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Left wing was my best position
although I liked to cut inside,
played for Coventry Boys
which filled my father with pride.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 When not playing the beautiful game
I’d go and watch my beloved Sky Blues,
stood on a packed Spion Kop
cheering them on come win or lose.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 So that’s fifty odd years of football
and what a rollercoaster ride,
travelling all over the country
to go and support my local side.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Yet even though I’m still a fan
and will be till the day I die,
I’m starting to lose motivation
and even asking myself why ?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I hope I’ll snap out of my depression
and just put it down as a blip,
because I’d hate for my fellow fans
to think I was jumping ship.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 So I’ll relax and get ready for the World Cup
forget about my club for a bit,
go and watch England down the pub
see one of our penalties go into orbit.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 So can I live without my football club
after supporting them for fifty years
when all they ever give me is pain
and each season nearly ends in tears ?

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 But deep down I know I’ll keep going
as Coventry City is in my blood,
and Ill keep on supporting them
even though I know we’re not very good !

Notes

As all long suffering football fans know this game we love can be a rollercoaster ride with twists and turns and with feelings of excitement mixed with feeling sick to the stomach.
Yet no matter how bad our club is we keep returning season after season, and hoping that the new campaign will be a good one.
I’ve watched my team with my late father,my two sons, and with mates
but even though my sons and mates hardly bother anymore due to lack of success I’m still there.
So the answer to the title of my poem has to be no.
Do I need psychiatric help probably yes !
