Can We Have Our Ball Back?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Summertime
And don’t we know it
The grass is long
‘Cos we don’t mow it
Lighter evenings bring them out
To play in the back yard
Kicking footballs over the fence
Unfit lumps of lard
‘Can we have our ball back?’
They cry till after dark
‘No you can’t you little sprout
Why don’t you go to the park?’
‘It’s too far’ they whine
‘It’s halfway up the road
It takes five mintutes to walk it
We’ve forgot the Green Cross Code’
No jumpers for goalposts
They just use our cats
Flatten all the daffodils
A bunch of thoughtless brats
Well, I’ve had enough of your footballs
Tennis balls, rugby ball
Swingball, cricket balls
And you, I’ve had enough of you an’ all
I shouldn’t have got mad
I’ve threatened our neighbourly bond
The boys next door are calling again
‘Our spacehoppers in your pond’
