Cardiff 2002

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Enter the Millennium Stadium
Wow
My first ever final
Planet yellow and green
Physical noise moving me to smile with tears in my eyes
It’s taken a while
Now we’re here
For the biggest game of our lives
The action on the pitch is like life size wallpaper
Behind a shield of disbelief
We’re actually here
Too busy being the crowd to worry about the game
Singing really loud
Though we couldn’t hear ourselves
Thousands of bobbing balloons
Like happy green and yellow faces
And there were plenty of them
Flags, scarves, banners, inflatables
The club shop had been emptied
Norfolk must be empty
Replicas of us sitting at home watching on TV
Lava of emotion consuming us all

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 We lost
But gained a library of memories in two hours

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 After the whistle
Mocking balloons were executed
Breaking the silence of broken dreams
Frozen faces, empty eyes
Watching someone elses graduation ceremony

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Returning to the coaches
Weighed down by heavy legs and tired hearts
We just wanted to get home
We’d pressed our noses up against the window
And dared to hope
Our sweets had been taken by bigger boys
And we cried

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But we’d been there
We knew how it felt
Seen the prize
Unforgettable day
At least now we know the way
