Shafts of sunlight shine
Ground below is absent
From Azzuri hero’s minds
Four players intent on winning
Intensely play the game
Paulo Rossi now the hero
Relaxes in his fame
The cards are on the table
Underneath the gaze
Of Jules Rimet the golden one
As he watches over play
Calmness is within the plane
Enzo Bearzot minus pipe
Made those Azzuri present
Champions in flight
When they arrive back home in Italia
The waiting crowd will respondo
With the cheer
They’ll alwayswant to hear

Notes

This poem is inspired by a really cool photo of four Italian World Cup hero’s just playing cards on the plane home, who is sitting on the table watching proceedings? Jules Rimet himself, the World Cup trophy! The business has been done now we go home and celebrate. Rossi who couldn’t get arrested a month ago is now a national hero for all his crucial goals as is Enzo Bearzot pipe et al who went with the striker despite the press, who are very powerfull in Italy, telling him he was crazy.
