Change of Season

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Fixed stare at the TV screen
No football action to be seen
Cricket-yes, tennis-yes
But football’s gone
My life’s a mess.
Three months now to wait for action
The sport that gives me satisfaction
Withdrawal symptoms now abound
As all there is, is an empty ground.
Transfer wrangling, money spent,
Players sold and some are lent.
Moving on, moving out,
With some retiring from the game.
This year, last year, next year,
It always is the same.
Watch the papers, see the capers
Managers, players, so much of hype
Media madness the faster they type.
Get out the stories
Share all the glories
Sit back and wait, we all take the bait.
Year after year
As the deadline gets near
Much discussing,
With sometimes some cussing
But at the end of it all
It’s about kicking a ball.
Get through this break between seasons
And look forward to next
Whatever your reasons.
Settle down
Mould the team
Back to training
Build up steam.
Brand new season
New beginning
No thoughts of losing
Just of winning.

Thanks Ianthe, love the poem and the message – but do watch the Women’s World Cup.
