Clough the genious

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I WISH I could see in the future
the same progress of one club
in the same way and in the same
manner FOREST did with Brian Clough

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 It is not the same thing to be Man City, Chelsea
of our day and to be Nottingham Forrest of 1980

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The glorious 1980 may forever be in our memory and
the years between 1970 and 1980 may forever be
REMEMBERED

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Forest did it with the GENIOUS CLOUGH
GENIOUS
CLOUGH
And again
GENIOUS
CLOUGH

Notes

THE TIMES, MAY 27 1980

Nottingham Forrest, deprived of Francis and Bowles, defend the European Cup against SV Hamburg here at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium tomorrow (7.30) with a team whose core remains a link with the days of promotion from the second division only three years ago. Sometimes the six survivors probably pinch themselves to believe how far they have come. Forrest have quickly defied most traditional patterns of progress mainly because of the inspiring, unconventional leadership of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor who, one feels, could persuade any milk roundsman to win a Grand Prix.

THE TIMES MAY 28 1980:

Afterwards Mr Clough said: “They may have had the edge on us in technique but we beat them for application, determination and the pride-all the things that portray our football. We weren’t lucky. We were good and any good team would have no option but to defend, but if you have to defend you have to do it well. It is as important as attacking. At half-time I wondered how we would last. I saw knees buckling and Mills was one of only three players we could have taken off. In fact, Birtles did not have the strength to remove his shin pads at the and of the game. “
