Comeback Kings

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 You could have written the script,
predicted that a now bearded Henry
would slide the ball into Leeds’ net
for a memorable night at the Emirates.
Forecast that a still ginger Scholes
would get one of the goals
to give United victory against Bolton.
So who’s next to come out of retirement?
Captain Scarlet lookalike Hansen to
leave the comfort of the MOTD sofa behind
and sweep up behind a greying Lawro?
Or Shearer to give up the beer and start
banging them in again?
Maybe the boy Lineker will leave
his gorgeous missus alone long enough
to poke one into an unguarded net,
rolling back the years (should that be ears?)
For Swindon: Moss jinking
once more down the wing;
McHale’s mastery in midfield;
another Stroud rocket to sockit
to a top flight team.
Combative Kammy in the engine room again.
Even the Don could be wheeled on
to take his man on, slip it past Wilson
and into the net and ‘that is that’.

Notes

It’s certainly been a week for comebacks, proving that young legs will get you round the pitch, but there’s no substitute for experience. Wonder if other contributors will be able to include their thoughts on their own comeback kings. Could start a whole new section?!
